| Cardiac CT Live: 25 Live Mentored Cases DVD-ROM |
| Sponsor: |
Society of Cardiovascular Computed Tomography (SCCT) |
| Brief Description: |
Cardiac CT Live is a collection of 25 cardiac CT angiographic studies acquired live at The Heart Center in Huntsville, Alabama. Each case reviews various techniques in acquisition of cardiac CT studies as well as data processing and reconstruction. Each case is then followed by a detailed interpretation by Dr. Michael Ridner of the Heart Center. Cases include examples of normal cardiac anatomy, native coronary lesions, coronary artery bypass graft anatomy, coronary stents and assessment of LV function.
Case credit: Participants will be able to have these 25 cases count towards the "Minimum Number of Mentored Examinations Interpreted" according to the ACCF/AHA Clinical Competence Statement on Cardiac CT and MR (Budoff et al, JACC 46:2005;383-402), 50 cases for Level 2 training, and 100 cases for Level 3 training. Since patients are actually scanned, the cases will count towards the "Minimum Number of Mentored Examinations Performed" in which, according to ACC/AHA criteria, the physical presence of the trainee is required during the acquisition of the CT dataset. The candidate must be present in the scanning room during CT raw data acquisition and image reconstruction from that raw data in at least 25 of the 50 cases where the CT data acquisition is observed. In up to 25 cases data acquisition can be witnessed from a taped video demonstration. If the CT data sets from these taped patients are not available for workstation review, these cases will contribute to the 50 required cases for observation but not to the additional 100 cases requiring data manipulation and interpretation. |

Multimodality Cardiac Imaging Research Fellowship Cedars-Sinai Medical Center: July 2010 |
| Description: |
Applicants are invited to apply for a two year research fellowship in cardiac imaging, including cardiac CT, MRI, SPECT, PET, and echo.
Background: Increasingly, there is a demand that MDs involved in non-invasive cardiac imaging be experts in multiple modalities. There is a parallel strong need for faculty to perform research and teach in multimodality cardiac imaging.
Qualifications: The program is open to MDs who have completed a cardiology fellowship or radiology residency and are board eligible. The applicant should have clinical experience in multimodality cardiac imaging gained during residence or fellowship. Applicants should be planning a career in imaging research.
Program: The program is designed to foster the development of clinical investigators in cardiac imaging. The formal curriculum includes courses in techniques of clinical and animal imaging research, outcomes research, biostatistics, scientific writing, grant writing, and the ethics of research. The trainee may participate in the lecture series for residents and fellows, if desired. Approximately 80% of the fellowship time is devoted to research, and 20% is allotted to clinical work, so as to gain and maintain multimodality clinical cardiac imaging skills. The trainee is encouraged to choose a combination of at least two modalities for research concentration. The trainee is involved in all steps of these individual research projects from hypothesis generation, literature review, project design, sample size, IRB application, patient recruitment, data acquisition, data analysis, abstract writing, abstract presentation, and manuscript writing.
The clinical imaging experience takes advantage of state of the art CT, MRI, SPECT, PET, and echo instrumentation dedicated to clinical cardiac work, the strong research expertise of the faculty, and the multiple funded, ongoing research programs in each of the modalities. The animal imaging research takes advantage of the superbly equipped small and large animal multimodality research imaging facility.
How to apply: Applicants should send a letter of expression of interest to Daniel Berman, MD or email Daniel.berman@cshs.org, Director, Cardiac Imaging, Cedars-Sinai Medical Center, Taper Bldg., Room 1258, Los Angeles, CA 90048.
Applicants will be required to provide the following documents prior to selection for an interview: a copy of medical school diploma or transcripts, 2 letters of recommendation, a copy of USMLE scores and a letter from current program director verifying prior training and satisfactory completion of current training. Graduates from non-USA/Canada medical schools must also provide an ECFMG certificate and California Medical License or "Applicant Status Letter."
