Case of the Month Program

Introduction:

Hands-on training in reviewing and evaluating coronary CT angiography data sets is a most valuable asset to improve skills and experience for clinical applications. SCCT is offering training programs, through its "CTA Academy" that will focus on just that.

In 2007, the CTA Academy conducted two-day training courses entitled "Hands on Introduction to Coronary CT Angiography. These courses were offered in co-sponsorship with the American College of Cardiology. The course was best suited for participants who had minimal amount of experience in manipulating CT data sets on a workstation.

In 2008, the CTA Academy will only conduct Intermediate-Advanced Courses. In addition, other courses will include cases with live scanned patients. Visit this section for up to date listings on dates and locations. For those who need introductory courses on Coronary CT Angiography, the ACCF/SCCT Coronary CTA Practicum will fulfill your needs. Training in Coronary CT Angiography Interpretation for Intermediate and Advanced Users

Based on the tremendous success of the introductory training courses in 2007, SCCT is offering intensive two-day training courses to improve your cardiac CT reading skills. These courses are directed towards physicians with prior knowledge and experience in cardiac CT. Click here for a brochure.

The course will offer hands-on training and the opportunity for immediate feedback by providing coronary CTA cases and corresponding coronary angiograms. The course is directed towards physicians with at least basic prior exposure to coronary CT angiography who want to improve or refresh their reading and interpretation skills, and also to advanced users who want exposure to difficult cases and thorough evaluation of their reading skills through feedback by invasive angiography.

The course material is selected in a way to cover typical findings, artifacts that can mimic or obscure stenoses, as well as difficult anatomic situations. Each case is selected to highlight a specific teaching point. Participants will have extensive exposure to interpretation of carefully selected coronary CT angiography data sets, including hands-on evaluation of 50 cases (maximum of 2 participants per workstation and at least 15 minutes allocated to each case). Every CTA case will then be reviewed on a large screen followed by viewing of invasive coronary angiography for correlation.

Participants will be able to have these 50 cases count towards the "Minimum Number of Mentored Examinations Interpreted" according to the ACCF/AHA Clinical Competence Statement on Cardiac CT and MR (Budoff et al, JACC 46:2005;383-402), which lists 50 cases of mentored examinations interpreted as a requirement for Level 1 training, 150 cases for Level 2 training, and 300 cases for Level 3 training.

Expert faculty will help with case interpretation and provide useful tips and tricks. Participants will achieve a maximum of 15.0 AMA PRA Category 1 Credits(s)™.
