I attended CVCTA training course in San Francisco over 5 days from June 2-6, 2009. The course was comprehensive, with pre-attendance online didactics and learning to prepare for the hands-on training.
I found the pre-course didactics to be very helpful and did infact prepare one to begin the hands on training immediately without further delay.
Hands on training was educational and challenging with both Dr Tony DeFrance and Dr David Bush participating. The different styles and points of view with interpretation and emphasis was excellent and enhanced the outcome for myself and colleagues present.
Throughout the course a number of live CT examinations were witnessed and then followed up in class. This provided some reality to the course as a work in progress.
Following the course I am now confident with performing Cardiac Ct examinations at my practice and have instituted the necessary proforma in the practice for this to occur. |

The course for Level I was well organized and well taught.
Due to bad weather I was unable to stay in San Francisco to complete Level II. The lap top with the ability to finish the course has had several glitches and has caused frustration and delays. The help given by Dr. DeFrance and IT while the course was taught in Houston was very helpful but the laptop continues to be unbearably frustrating. I am sure some of my attempted answers were inappropriately scored by the computer as it kept taking an answer I was not marking. |

Very educational. Oriented toward proficiency with the workstation and establishing a routine for image evaluation. Not enough time to do much in the way of didactic teaching about the conditions themselves---a lot of this was assumed perhaps because many of the students are cardiologists who know all about the conditions but little about cross sectional image analysis. This is perhaps the only deficiency from a radiologist viewpoint. |

This is an excellent course. The online didactic lectures prior to the 3 day hands on / face to face lectures are very helpful and contributes enormously to understanding the rest of the course. The didactics are very well structured , informative and well presented. Even though I am a radiologist, the radiology aspect of the didactic taught me a few things that I did not know. The lectures on cardiac anatomy and pathology were excellent and enabled me to understand the rest of the course.
The 3 day lectures were also very well presented and organized.
For me, the Mentor Program is the preferred way to complete the extra 100 hundred cases to get to Level II. It has been immensely useful for my learning being able to do it at my own pace, my own time and at home or at the office. The ability to get instant feedback from the mentor program greatly facilitates learning. The ability to have time to think about the cases and refer back to the notes or to the didactic online lectures is a better way to learn that doing an intensive course over a few days, where you become overwhelmed with information and not being able to digest them properly and end up remembering and retaining little of what is taught. The ability to email the lecturers with queries is useful.
There are some limitations with the mentor program, if you think that the instant answers/feedback provided are wrong or need clarification, you would need to wait until a lecturer send you a reply email. There were a few cases where there were inconsistencies with the answers provided and I still await the reply. I have just finished the course.
Overall, it was probably the best course that I have ever attended.

Dr. DeFrance, Dr. Hellinger and Dr. J. Adams made this course an excellent experience well balanced with coronary, peripheral vascular and anatomic and functional CTA. The instructors were experts, the course content was organized, diverse, correctly paced with excellent one to one interaction with the experts. The combination of CTA, history, catherization images provides a good format for learning. This was an A quality experience and Dorian made us feel welcome and was organized. |

This course was simply outstanding. Dr. DeFrance was personally present throughout the entire course and reviewed each case with us in great detail. By frequent review and repitition, he was able to teach to us his detail oriented, practical, and systematic approach to case review. Undoubtedly, I will adopt his method of reading cases in my own practice. Having already been to other introductory courses on CTA interpretation, I can state that his course was "hands down" the best by far. |
